Day 1-Guayaquil...

Got to sleep in until 0910 today.  Felt good!  Got up headed to breakfast and then off to Iguana Park.  Had to test out my elevator again.  Gotta get a better picture this week.  Took a few more pics of the new Iguana that you can see from the floor of our hotel.  Totally awesome!
Back to the elevator we go!  Can anyone see a theme here?  Why are there elevators on my brain?  Do you really HAVE to ask?
Allison actually posing with her Mom..yeah me! Allison is trying to figure out a way to get one of these back on the plane!
So we walked over to Iguana Park, which is just a block from the hotel.  Right behind the HUGE Catholic Church that is partially attached to the hotel.  It didn't seem like as many iguana's were out that we saw last year, but the tree covered in iguanas was still there.  Allison said "I only see 5" then when I looked, I counted more than 20.  You have to look to see them because they blend in so well, even with little foilage on the tree!  Cherine chose NOT to stand under the tree for reasons we will not discuss!
Done with Iguana Park and then off to the Malecon.  A huge riverfront that has tons of areas for children to play.  We did walk through the government buildings and found new things!

Cherine and Allison were thirsty.  Neither realized what they were doing until I screamed "Don't drink  the water". ha ha ha ha....
Just like Raleigh has the painted wolves....Guayaquil has horses.  There were 6 in the business area..then we found more on the riverfront.  Cherine wasn't sure if this one was male or female....
All the buildings, statues and such are HUGE!  We look tiny compared to this statue.
More contemplating about the male race.  Im not quite sure that will be solved on this trip!
We did trip up the stairs on the way to get this picture.  Allison seemed to think it was rather funny that Cherine and I both tripped.
Allison didn't take too well on pictures with me...but Aunt Cherine has now been adopted!  So it was ok to have her pic taken with her.
We ended up walking down the riverfront to the base of the Lighthouse hill.  Thats our mission this week.  As busy as we are Im not sure we will make it back twice...but thats our goal.
As we walked back to the hotel, I wanted to find the HUGE tree, but everywhere we looked, we couldn't find it.  But we ended up walking past the Yacht Club and then we found it. Yeah!
As we walked back through Iguana Park and headed back to the hotel we ended up running into Dr. Czech!  So Bob, of course, wanted a picture!
Rested up for a bit then wanted to head out to the Indian Market!  Hoping for another painting!  Cherine is there and she is the best barter-er EVER!  So I have total faith.  Ran into Hank in the lobby!  I love Hank!  So good to see him again~
Finally ran into Diane.  We called her when we got up but hadn't caught up with her.  Yeah!
 Before:
Cherine bartering for me!  I ended up getting the blue painting in the background!  I love it!  And the guy was the same as last year except his wife wasn't here.  Thank goodness.  She wouldn't budge last year on price...but this guy did! Yeah!
Next up:  Hat Lady!  Gotta love it!
Cherine and I ended up getting hats,,,,,Betsy and Diane tried on 50 but didn't get ANY!
Too bad I didn't see this one until after I left!  I would have added it to the Renee stack!  She always seems to find the right one!
Our time for shopping was up and we were waiting on the bus!
Again, 2nd attempt at the elevator Chinese firedrill.  We only got 6 in there!  We are working on this!  Believe me, We will perfect our technique and get at least 10 in there!  More pics to come!
Supermarket stop next!  We needed bread, cokes, other stuff...coffee for Nicky-poo and chocolate for everyone!  I ran into this banana...would definately like to see the tree that this came off of!
And hey, I found a new job while I was there......sign me up!
All in all a pretty good day!  We just found out that we are heading out to an island tomm that is a 2 hour boat ride to an area that has never seen medical attention!  Ought to be interesting to say the least!  The Cherine factor is definately into play!  Stay tuned....
